GRAFTON, Mass. - It takes more than a little snow to deter a Girl Scout from her cookie sales -- and Grafton Girl Scouts kicked off their first weekend of cookie sales last weekend in the midst of a small snowstorm.
Those who dropped by Savers Bank or Stop & Shop found themselves with a happy bonus to tide themselves over before shoveling their dirveways: a full array of Girl Scout cookies. And never fear, the Girl Scouts plan to be out every weekend through the month of February, as well as selling their delicious treats door-to-door.
"Everybody loves the Thin Mints," said Shaugnessy Docekal, 12, a member of Cadette Troop 30217, which was selling cookies inside the bank.
What makes Girl Scout cookies so special? Some say it's the seasonal aspect, some feel they're helping the scouts with their programs. Scouts in Troop 30217 plan to use their share of the cookie sales to help defray the cost of a trip to New York City, where they will see a Broadway play.
Nicole Cacciapouti, now in her fifth year of selling cookies, says there's a trick to selling.
"You need to smile," she said. "And you need to ask."
Cookie booths will be held on the following dates at Stop & Shop on Worcester Street in Grafton:
