GRAFTON, Mass. -  Abraham Hanna, 92, of North Grafton, devoted family man, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012.

Abraham was born in Dyar Bakr, Turkey the son of Elia and Khatoun (Murad) Hanna and was the last surviving of their three sons. His brothers were Hanna (deceased), his wife Ghazal of Syria, Shukry (deceased) his wife Fahima of Iowa.

He left Turkey going to Syria at age 20 after the persecution of the Assyrian Christian Minority in Turkey during World War II. He then immigrated to The United States with his wife and most of his children in 1979.

Abraham leaves his beloved wife of 64 years, Fahima (Malke) Hanna; one daughter and five sons,  Khatoun (Hanna) Stifo and her husband Malak , Elias Hanna and his wife Deborah, Gabriel Hanna and his wife Ghossoun, Raymond Hanna and his wife Jemma , Wade Hanna and his wife Rima all of Grafton, Moris Hanna and his wife Salwa of Worcester; 14 grandsons, George and his wife Stella, Simon and his wife Faya, Ashur, Delmon, Ninos and his wife Maya, Sargon, Dany, Andrew, Brian (deceased), Matthew, Michael, Jack, Ryan and Alex; a granddaughter, Ninwa, two great grandsons, Sargon and Enkido; nieces and nephews, Burhan and Zorah of Syria, Yelmaz, George, Maurice, Silva, Jeannette, Danny all of Iowa.

Mr. Hanna owned and operated his own clothing business in his homeland retiring in 1979. His family and church were his life’s inspiration and devotion.


Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at The Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton Monday, Feb. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral for Abraham will be celebrated by St. Mary’s Assyrian Orthodox Church of North Grafton in St. Philip’s Church, 12 West St., Grafton on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. He will then be laid to rest in St. Philip’s Cemetery on Millbury St. in Grafton.
