This could go a couple of different ways:
- You are using the tounge-in-cheek humor / sarcasm (that I admire, by the way) about the schools learning their lesson about using small humans as mail carriers for political action committees
- You are a way over the top helicopter mom that has trouble not cutting the crusts off the Sun nut butter sandwich, too scared that your progeny will cut his lip on the sharp bread
- You aren't aware of the post 9/11 police presence at the elementary school today - two as greeters in the lobby of the school, one covering the polling areas. Is there a school resource officer on duty at a school for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders?!?!?!? or just plenty of backup in case someone gives the wrong address? View Comment

We all know it's about $9 on amazon, right? If you really want to read it, skip the ice cream cone a couple of days, return some cans, and scrape together the 9 bucks and don't wait the 2 months for a book that isn't that well written. View Comment

Awesome! Now we're getting somewhere - what was the outcome of the hearing? What did the two defendants have to say? What did the town/state/feds have to say about this case? Is the DA optimistic? What's changed since November 2011? The were charged in November, what was the editorial reason for posting this, and only this case in today's news update?
Again, something's a bit fishy. View Comment

"I think you have a future in investigative journalism"
I think you are right - thanks for the vote of confidence!
-Who owns the unregistered car, looks like an old chief's/unmarked police car that's been parked in the old police station parking lot for close to a year now? Seems like the town could sell that, put some cash back into the general fund. Or did we really not need to buy another cruiser the last time around?
-Who pays for the old central fire station? Seems like we are housing a private ambulance company - is this part of the deal? Who pays for heat/lights/maint? What happens if an ambulance employee gets hurt in that building? Is it on the company's workmans comp, or town liability?
-Where's the 'free' boat we got last(or the year before) year for patroling lakes Ripple and Silver? How much was spent on maint and operator certification, fuel, overtime?
- What's new on $2K week fine for not having a library up to ADA standards? It was hot for a while, now we're just waiting to write checks.
This is just the tip of the iceburg - dont' get me started on Ipads for all high school students. View Comment

Call the editor? Why would I want to expose all the skeltons in my closet from 5 months ago? Next thing you know, my past (from 5 months ago) would be called 'news' today and put on the front page of a local rumor mill.
I would simply like it explained to me why this is surfacing now? In this age of information, I would think if it was real news, other outlets would have it prominently displayed, but I can't find anything other than 5 months ago everywhere, and now, today, only here. Does this publication have an axe to grind with Troiano? With the owners? With the fact that they want to buy the property and seemingly have more capital than our cash strapped town? If you don't have any answers, why do you come back to me?
Is everyone out here asleep? Where's the pitchforks and torches? What's next - a naughty list for people that got speeding tickets in a school zone 5 months ago? View Comment

found another account, this time on the Grafton Patch:
"On Friday, Nov. 25, police:
Responded to a report of a larceny/theft at 1:56 p.m. on Creeper Hill Road.
As a result, charges were brought against two men.
Steven W. Johnson, 46, of 17 Mechanic St., Spencer, was charged with removing/altering a motor vehicle identification number and removing a motor vehicle to defraud.
Daniel F. Sheehan Jr., 56, of 49 Orne St. Apt. 1, Worcester, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property over $250, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and removing a motor vehicle to defraud."
This one was easier to cut and paste.... the question still remains, why are we seeing this article now? Was there a court date? Was there a finding?
Are we just stirring the pot?

"The Daily Grafton is in cahoots with the board of selectmen is just plain stupid."
I know, it's never happened before in the press.... Now, if you could just tell me where on this website it was first posted about the original arrest, in at least as much detail and volume as this one? - November 2011?, December 2011? Why is this timely piece of investigative journalism (yes, sarcasm) surfacing now? I'm sure it has nothing to do with the vote in 10 days to spend 1/3 of a million dollars.
"You get what you settle for" (Thelma and Louise) - I'm not settling to see another tax paying company getting shoved around by this town, so we can have more dead land that costs money we don't have.
and if we're going to start calling names, 'stupid' and 'lame', I'll ask you to keep my drinking habits out of it.

Yes, it's still missing from the GPD website, but the arrest details were listed on this fine publication - found the link:

maybe they didn't want you to find it :)
refer to arrest - 11-261-AR - Stephen W Johnson - Spencer, MA
refer to arrest - 11-262-AR - Daniel F.Sheehan - Worcester, MA View Comment

In doing a little (meaning 5 minutes of internet background), the only week missing from the Grafton Police log book, on their website, is this one! Really?
What is the timeline on this? When did this actually happen? Why are we hearing about it now?
If the arrest was so important in November, why wasn't it reported here? If it wasn't important in November, why are we hearing about it now?
This RAG had at least a little credibility before this, ie; library vote, honeywell project info... even the high school/playground issue... this is black jouralism at it's worst!

Wow! Fantastic timing on the reporting of this crime! A little over a week before a town meeting where the company wants to buy the property, but the townsfolk have a chance to squash it.....
Show me where the original arrest was reported. When was Johnson charged? Was there a court date?
sounds a little like muckraking to me, but you can make your own decision.

How much $$$ does the town make from soccer fields?
Why don't we build a soccer complex on the $800K land we bought for the library expansion? Why is the town even thinking of land acquisition when we (I thought) were in such dire straights of capital?

"Smoking around other people is hazadous to the health of those OTHER people" - get a grip, and get a hobby! - how does my smoking on the common affect your quality of life driving by? If there was a concert on the common, maybe. I don't need a government official telling me it's bad for me - everything is bad for me!
What if I asked your permission, you said yes, and then "THE MAN" comes walking by to give me a fine? Could I then pull you into a hearing to back me up? Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't ask your permission - I have rights, also.
"These litter bugs should be fined ... for littering" - Why aren't they already being fined? How many tickets for 17 year olds buying cigarettes have been handed out? How many undercover stings have been completed for the same situation? How much do you want to spend on nanny-ing everyone else
Exactly the reason we don't need another unenforced by-law / law on the books.

keep your laws off my body!
sounded good roughly 40 years ago, still sounds good.
MYOB from my grandmother sounded good, and it still does. Having a cigar on the park bench with no one else around on the common is not a problem.

get the popcorn, people - this should be interesting!
- "We should be making it a healthy environment for the majority of the people of Grafton" the same could be said about alcohol, fatty foods, and sex. Are we ready for that too?
- What are the penalties for smoking on the common, on the side of a wide open baseball field, on the side of the road during a parade? Is it an arrestable offense?
- If I were smoking pot on the common, which penalty would be worse?
- If the board of health were able to convince each other Grafton should not have streets because cars cause deaths, would that small committee be able to outlaw cars? View Comment
