Way to Go Shrewsbury High! As an African-American mom, I look forward to my children experiencing this same presentation during their school years. What an honor to meet these heroes. View Comment

It's great to see the schools honoring Dr. MLK! However, we must not forget his dream was to make the world a better place. He shook the world with his dream for equality. Race- equality.
It's not cute to see teachers asking children, "what is your dream?" and not follow up with evoking a deeper response. A dream to be a good dancer, skydiver, rockstar, chemist, is NOT what the Reverend King stood for.
Teachers need to ask, "how will your dream change the way we peacefully, respectfully promote equality in the world."
Teach the children to dig deeper inside. View Comment
Commented on 2011 Flashback: Grafton Meets James Cummings

Great interview indeed! He has followed through with everything he set out objectively to do for Grafton Schools. I'm sure the committee is thrilled with their choice as well as many teachers, school administrators and parents. I'm sure the children love him too. Shaking hands, answering questions in the halls.
However:
Is there a reason this is news worthy? Is there a chance other good intentioned- outstanding, concerned residents in Grafton can have air-time on front page? Were there any other videos the town could have voted on for some of the best footage? I'm sure many parents have cool video of their children playing sports, in performances, ect.
Hope to see more real life featured.

Commented on Poll: Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?
12/20/11
Over the past few days we've attended "holiday" concerts at our kid's schools. I've watched these wonderful youngsters sing their little hearts out. It's beautiful to hear Christian children singing Hanukkah songs and Jewish children singing Christmas carols. Then there's Kwanza which I doubt many in Grafton celebrate (including us, and I am African-American). The children belt out that Kwanza song too. They don't seem to mind; why should we?
It's great to see/hear their diverse beauty on stage; enjoying the season for what it was intend to be Love and Peace in Harmony.

Nice Article, yes a fun time was had by all. My family and I have lived in Grafton for 6 years now and this year was the first time we ran into many folks from surrounding towns enjoying the Grafton Holidays' Celebration. As usual, the local businesses did a fine job with generous goodies to give to all--for FREE! The crafts were great too.
We were surprised the camel rides cost $5.00 per child/person to ride. That totaled $15.00 for our children. Hopefully this vendor donated part of the proceeds to our recreation department. With all the CASH this group collected, Grafton should be able to do fine things for our children in the upcoming year. What a fundraiser!

Commented on Letter: Library Needs Won't 'Magically Go Away'
11/06/11
Yes, wonderfully written, Mr. Towne. In addition to the much needed, upgraded library as you stated, "The need to fix this antiquated, undersized and unsafe library will not magically go away," it's also important to note the location is key as well. It's great to know we can have a central location--the common.
The center of Grafton is very quintessential New England with it's rich and beautiful historical buildings. It's great to know the library upgrades will not interfere with our historical importance and charm.
I was at the town meeting and to hear a fellow neighbor argue, "we need 3 libraries...one in North Grafton, one in the center and then re-open the one in S.Grafton" (which is now a cute thrift store.) was absurd. Talk about dividing the town. The library belongs to EVERYONE- North, Central and South Graftonites therefore, the common/center is the perfect spot to keep it! View Comment
Commented on School Canceled in Grafton For Tuesday

Let it snow -let it snow!!! Yahoo, time to dust off the skis and snowboards. Dr. Cummings has done a great job so far, and we have confidence he will continue to make wise decisions for our school children. It may mean taking away some winter and or spring vacation time. Who knows, maybe they will attend a Saturday school session, whatever, I'm sure he will come up with a great game plan to avoid school in JULY. View Comment
